York International, under the mandate of the Associate Vice-President International (AVPI):
- Supports the transition and retention of international undergraduate and graduate students, and visiting scholars.
- Promotes student mobility globally by offering and leading opportunities, on campus and abroad.
- Facilitates international partnerships.
- Liases with external (global and local) partners.
International Student and Scholar Services
York University is home to a diverse community, which includes more than 5000 international and exchange students from over 185 different countries. York International provides a range of student programs and services to enhance the experience of international students and better connect them with the York community:
- Orientation for international students, which provides a comprehensive introduction to life, culture, academics, and services at York University, and dedicated advising for support along the way
- The International Student Peer Program, which pairs new international students with student mentors
- Celebrations of York’s cultural diversity
- University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) advising
- Providing information on immigration matters pertaining to international students and scholars
Ways to add an international component to your experience at York University
York International strives to provide students with a wide variety of opportunities to develop the skills necessary for being effective citizens, scholars, and employees in our evermore globalized world. Information can be found on the Go Global website of York International. The opportunities we provide or support in partnership with Faculties and departments include:
- Studying abroad through a one- or two-semester exchange, or a summer course
- Working abroad through the York International Internship Program
- Enrolling in one of York’s international academic programs or taking an internationally focused course
- Volunteering for the international student peer program, which pairs new international students with international student mentors
- Building international experience on-campus through programs linking international and domestic students
- Living in an international community at Global House

Internationalization is a strategic priority for York University. The Office of the Associate Vice-President International works collaboratively with students, faculty members, staff, institutions and governments to provide leadership in turning this priority into a reality.
