Education – French - Glendon BED

The best preparation for teaching French at all certification levels is a BA degree in French Studies. Junior/Intermediate must declare French Studies as their major. Intermediate/Senior must declare French Studies as their major or minor. Courses can be chosen in consultation with an education French adviser. All education candidates registered in BEd (French) must take the following courses:

Junior/Intermediate

For Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from FRAN 2210 (included) (or equivalent) as follows:

  • 12 credits in language,
  • six credits in literature and
  • six credits in linguistics.

24 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDUC 3100 3.00.

For Non-Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from FRLS 2240 (included) (or equivalent) as follows:

  • 18 credits in language, six credits in literature or
  • 18 credits in language and six credits in linguistics.

24 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDUC 3100 3.00.

Intermediate/Senior

First Teaching Subject

For Francophone Students:
Candidates must complete a total of 36 credits from FRAN 2210 (included) (or equivalent); that is:

  • 12 credits in language,
  • 12 credits in linguistics and
  • 12 credits in literature.

12 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/FREN 3051 6.00.

For Non-Francophone Students:
Candidates must complete a total of 36 credits from FRLS 2240 (included) (or equivalent); that is:

  • 18 credits in language, 12 credits in linguistics and 6 credits in literature or
  • 18 credits in language, 6 credits in linguistics and 12 credits in literature.

12 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/FREN 3051 6.00.

Second Teaching Subject

For Francophone Students:
Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from FRAN 2210 (included) (or equivalent) as follows:

  • 12 credits in language,
  • six credits in literature and
  • six credits in linguistics.

12 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/FREN 3051 6.00.

For non-Francophone Students:
Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from FRLS 2240 (included) (or equivalent) as follows:
