Welcome to York University’s Centre for Human Rights (CHR). The CHR contributes to the University’s vision of social justice and accessible education.  We strive to build a respectful, equitable, diverse and inclusive (REDI) community at York by advancing, promoting, and upholding human rights at York in accordance with provincial human rights legislation and the University’s policies.

The CHR:

Supports York University’s administration in developing and implementing policies, practices, guidelines and procedures.

Educates the York community on their human rights responsibilities and obligations and related human rights issues.

Receives and processes human rights concerns and complaints brought forward by York students, faculty and staff.

Researches human rights issues for use in its policy advice and educational programming.

The CHR provides free services to current York University students, faculty and staff. We outreach to and engage with the York community  as we undertake research, provide policy guidance and human rights training, conduct consultations, mediation and investigations where warranted, coordinate events and produce educational resources, and track and communicate our progress to the York community.

To consult our team about our research or human rights at York, or to request a training session or educational materials, call or e-mail us. Leave your name, email and/or phone number and we will respond within 3 business days. All questions and discussions are kept confidential as per applicable laws. Where human rights concerns and complaints are being raised, our focus is on informal remedial mediation, alternative dispute resolution options, and where warranted, formal investigations.
