York's experiential education opportunities allow students to put their learning into practice. EE provides students with an opportunity to connect course material with experiences in and outside of the classroom, build awareness of social responsibility, develop valuable skills and get experience within their field of interest. Experiential education is offered in all Faculties at York and can take place within a course (simulations, group presentations), within the community (community service, research) or in a workplace setting (placements, internships, co-op) depending on the program of study and the specific needs of community partners and employers. Through all types of experiential education, students not only gain a deeper understanding of concepts and experience better academic performance, they also gain confidence and clarity about their career paths. The skills students develop through experiential education – teamwork, communication, analytical, problem-solving and a strong work ethic – are the primary skills sought by Canadian employers when recruiting top talent.
