Faculty of Education (ED) – Visual Arts

The best preparation for teaching visual arts is a BFA degree or equivalent Honours degree in visual arts. Courses can be chosen in consultation with a Faculty of Education adviser and/or the subject course director.

Intermediate/Senior

As a first teaching subject, you must complete 36 credits as follows: 12 credits in three of the following categories – drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture. The remaining credits must be taken at the 3000- or 4000-year level. Candidates must complete at least 18 credits of studio courses in visual arts. 24 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling ED1 Semester 1 and 2 in ED/VISA 4000 3.00 and ED/VISA 4001 3.00.

As a second teaching subject, you must complete 18 credits as follows: nine credits in two of the following categories – drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture. The remaining credits must be taken at the 3000- or 4000-year level. Candidates must complete at least 12 credits of studio courses in visual arts.

Junior/Intermediate

As a teaching subject, you must complete 24 credits as follows: nine credits in two of the following categories – drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture. The remaining credits must be taken at the 3000- or 4000-year level. Candidates must complete at least 12 credits of studio courses in visual arts. The teaching subject area courses must be completed prior to enrolling in ED2 Semester 3 ED/VISA 3000 3.00.
