Faculty of Education (ED) – French - Glendon BEd

The best preparation for teaching French at the Primary/Junior certification level is a BA degree in French. Junior/Intermediate and Intermediate/Senior certification level must declare French Studies as their major and first teachable. Courses can be chosen in consultation with an education French adviser. All education candidates registered in BEd (French) must take the following courses:

Junior/Intermediate

For Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from GL/FRAN 2210 3.00 (included)(or equivalent) as follows:

  • 12 credits in language;
  • six credits in literature; and
  • six credits in linguistics.

24 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDFR 2000 3.00 Semester 2.

For Non-Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 24 credits from GL/FRLS 2240 6.00 (included) (or equivalent) as follows:

  • 18 credits in language and six credits in literature; or
  • 18 credits in language and six credits in linguistics; or

24 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDFR 2000 3.00 Semester 2.

Intermediate/Senior

First Teaching Subject

For Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 36 credits from GL/FRAN 2210 3.00 (included)(or equivalent), that is:

  • 24 credits in language;
  • six credits in linguistics; and
  • six credits in literature.

36 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDFR 2000 3.00 Semester 2.

For Non-Francophone Students:

Candidates must complete a total of 36 credits from GL/FRLS 2240 6.00 (included) (or equivalent), that is:

  • 18 credits in language, 12 credits in linguistics and six credits in literature; or
  • 18 credits in language, six credits in linguistics and 12 credits in literatures.

36 credits in the teaching subject area must be completed prior to enrolling in ED/EDFR 2000 3.00 Semester 2.
