Honours Majors

Students must complete the requirements of the Honours BA degree or the Honours BFA degree.

Specialized Honours BFA Program (Studio)

At least 66 credits in visual arts, including:

36 credits of in studio courses, including:

  • six credits in Cluster 1 (painting, drawing, printmaking ) taken within the first two years of study;
  • six credits in Cluster 2 (time-based art, photography, sculpture ) taken within the first two years of study;
  • at least six credits at the 2000 level;
  • at least 18 credits in total at Year 3 or 4;
  • no more than six credits in one media area in the first two years of study;
  • no more than 15 credits in one media area in Year 3 or 4.

30 credits in studies courses, including:

  • at least 15 credits at the 1000 or 2000 level, including:
  • three credits in FA/VISA 3001 3.00 taken in Year 3;
  • at least 12 additional credits in total in Year 3 or 4;
  • a maximum of 18 credits may be taken in the major each year; of these only 12 credits may be practicum.

At least 24 of the 66 credits in the major must be at 3000 or 4000 level.

Specialized Honours BA Program (Art History)

Students must complete at least 54 credits in visual arts.

A minimum of 36 credits in studies courses, including:

  • FA/VISA 2620 6.00;
  • at least 15 credits at the 1000 or 2000 level (including FA/VISA 2620 6.00);
  • at least nine credits at the 3000 level;
  • at least 12 credits at the 4000 level;
  • no more than 12 credits may be taken in practicum, including FA/VISA 1005 3.00 and FA/VISA 1006 3.00;
  • a maximum of 18 credits may be taken in the major each year; of these only six credits may be practicum.

At least 24 of the 54 credits in the major must be at 3000 or 4000 level.

Students must complete at least 30 credits in visual arts, including:

BA Program

Students must complete at least 42 credits in visual arts, including:

21 credits in practicum courses, including:

  • six credits in Cluster 1 taken within the first two years of study;
  • six credits in Cluster 2 taken within the first two years of study;
  • a maximum of three additional credits at the 2000 level;
  • a maximum of six credits at the 3000 level;
  • no more than six credits in one media in the first two years of study.

21 credits in studies courses, including:

  • a maximum of 15 credits within the first two years of study, including:
  • a maximum of six credits at the 3000 level;
  • no 4000 level courses may be taken as part of the BA;
  • a maximum of 15 credits may be taken in the major each year, of these, only nine credits may be practicum.

At least 18 of the 90 credits taken must be at the 3000 level, including the 12 credits in the major.
