Geography - Applied Geography
Specialized Honours BA Program
Applied geography uses geographical theory and
methodology to solve real world problems that have a geographical
dimension. The Program in Applied Geography is a Specialized Honours
undergraduate program directed to students seeking employment in
occupations in planning, business, industry, and government where
geographical skills are an asset. Qualified students may also apply
to graduate level programs in planning, geography, and cognate
applied fields. The program combines concepts and technical skills
in applied geography with a knowledge base to situate both. In
their fourth year, students may obtain academic credit for an approved
work experience. The goal of the program is to present practical
and professionally oriented aspects of geography.
To Enter the Program:
1. Students are encouraged to apply for admission
to the Program in Applied Geography after their first year of study
(successful completion of at least 24 credits). Students may register
in the program later in their studies, but the degree requirements
reduce the flexibility of late enrolees who may find it necessary
to complete more than 120 credits to satisfy the requirements of
this program.
2. To be eligible for admission students must
have achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 5.0
(C+).
To Graduate:
Students must complete 120 credits, achieving
a cumulative grade point average of 6.0 (B) in the required geography
courses and an overall cumulative grade point average of 5.0 (C+).
