Criminology

Note: For purposes of meeting program requirements, all foundations courses will count as six credits towards the major or minor.

Note: Students must achieve at least a grade of B (6.0) in AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (or equivalent) in order to be permitted to continue as a major in criminology, or to pursue additional criminology courses at the 2000, 3000 and 4000 levels. Under exceptional circumstances, non-majors who have not obtained at least a grade of B (6.0) in AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 may apply for special consideration to enrol in a criminology course for which AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (or equivalent) is a prerequisite. This application should be made to the coordinator of the Criminology Program.

Honours BA Program

Students must complete at least 54 credits in criminology, including:

  • AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (with a minimum grade of B);
  • AS/SOCI 2030 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2650 6.0 or AS/SOSC 3382 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2651 3.0;
  • AS/SOSC 3381 6.0 or AS/POLS 3600 3.0 and AS/CRIM 3651 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 3652 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 4650 6.0;
  • 18 additional credits chosen from the list of Criminology Program courses, including at least six credits at the 4000 level.

Honours Double Major BA Program

Criminology may be pursued jointly with any other Honours bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a major in earth and atmospheric science or physics and astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science. Courses taken to meet the criminology requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the other Honours bachelor's degree program.

Students must complete at least 42 credits in criminology, including:

  • AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (with a minimum grade of B);
  • AS/SOCI 2030 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2650 6.0 or AS/SOSC 3382 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2651 3.0;
  • AS/SOSC 3381 6.0 or AS/POLS 3600 3.0 and AS/CRIM 3651 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 3652 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 4650 6.0;
  • six additional credits at the 4000 level chosen from the list of Criminology Program courses.

Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA Programs

Criminology may be linked with any Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take at least 42 credits in criminology and at least 36 credits in the interdisciplinary program. Courses taken to meet the criminology requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the interdisciplinary program. Students in these interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least six credits in criminology and six credits in the interdisciplinary program. The 42 credits in criminology must include the following:

  • AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (with a minimum grade of B);
  • AS/SOCI 2030 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2650 6.0 or AS/SOSC 3382 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2651 3.0;
  • AS/SOSC 3381 6.0 or AS/POLS 3600 3.0 and AS/CRIM 3651 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 3652 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 4650 6.0;
  • six additional credits chosen from the list of Criminology Program courses.

Honours (Major/Minor) BA Program

Criminology may be pursued jointly with any Honours Minor bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a minor in biology, chemistry, or physics and astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science. Courses taken to meet the criminology requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the Honours Minor bachelor's degree program.

Students must complete at least 42 credits in criminology, including:

  • AS/CRIM 1650 9.0 (with a minimum grade of B);
  • AS/SOCI 2030 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2650 6.0 or AS/SOSC 3382 6.0;
  • AS/CRIM 2651 3.0;
  • AS/SOSC 3381 6.0 or AS/POLS 3600 3.0 and AS/CRIM 3651 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 3652 3.0;
  • AS/CRIM 4650 6.0;
  • six additional credits at the 4000 level chosen from the list of Criminology Program courses.

Note: Faculty of Arts legislation requires that, in order to obtain an Honours BA (120 credits), students must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level including at least 12 credits at the 4000 level in each Honours major or Specialized Honours major.
