York's five libraries – the Scott Library, the Peter F. Bronfman Business Library, the Steacie Science & Engineering Library, the Osgoode Law Library and the Leslie Frost Library – provide specialized services, resources and facilities essential to York's learning, research and teaching activities at both the Keele and Glendon campuses.

Study Spaces

The Libraries provide both quiet study areas, as well as areas suitable for collaborative and group work – including some 40 group study rooms. In addition to the provision of alternate format materials for students with disabilities, we have an adaptive equipment lab for drop-in use. Our libraries are open from early morning to late evening most days and around the clock study space is available 24/5 during the core parts of the fall and winter terms.

Collections

In total, York University Libraries contain over 7.6 million items including books, journals, archival materials, maps, data, videos, CDs – even a model skeleton. Many of our collections and services are available through the Libraries’ website – your gateway to more than 80,000 electronic journals and other electronic resources. You can access our e-resources remotely or borrow one of our 2.5 million print volumes.

Support

Our librarians are available to help with anything from defining research topics, conducting literature reviews and finding materials, critically evaluating information, to using the information ethically. Connect with them in person or by e-mail, telephone or online chat.

The Learning Commons @ Scott Library offers research, writing and career-related support. In the Learning Commons Hub on the second floor of Scott Library, you’ll find librarians, writing instructors and learning skills tutors and career services who can help you with any of the steps involved in completing your academic work. Take a look at our workshops and drop-in help.

York students also have access to SPARK (Student Papers and Academic Research Kit) – a 24/7 online resource that can assist you with the completion of any aspect of an academic assignment. The 12 SPARK modules focus on developing academic literacy skills in areas such as: time management, research strategies, essay structure, creating bibliographies, as well as academic integrity. The modules are about eight to ten minutes in length and consist of interactive quizzes, videos and printable worksheets.

We welcome you to the Libraries and we encourage frequent visits, whether you come to read at a carrel, work together with your classmates, or search for materials through our website. Librarians and other library staff members are here to help you get the most out of the libraries: just ask!
