Ways to add an international component to your experience at YorkU

York International strives to provide students a wide variety of opportunities to develop the skills necessary for being appropriate and effective citizens, scholars, and employees in our ever more globalized world.  The opportunities we provide or support in partnership with faculties and departments include:

International Student Programs and Services

York University is home to a diverse community, which includes more than 3,800 international and exchange students from over 150 different countries. York International provides a range of student programs and services to enhance the experiences of international students and better connect them with the YorkU community:

  • Orientation for international students, which provides a comprehensive introduction to life, culture, academics, and services at York U, and dedicated advising for support along the way
  • The Buddy Program, which matches new international students with student mentors
  • Cultural Galas, celebrations of the arts and cuisine of countries or regions of the world
  • University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) advising
  • Workshops and advising on study permit, visa, and student work permit application procedures
  • The Living in Canada series, which addresses international student questions from everyday life

Office of the Associate Vice-President International

Internationalization is a strategic priority of York University. The Office of the Associate Vice-President International works collaboratively with students, faculty members, staff, institutions and governments to provide leadership in turning this priority into a reality.

With these principles in mind, we are working towards reaching four key goals:

  • To make internationalization pervasive and integral to teaching and learning at York.
  • To provide as many opportunities, and as many different kinds of opportunities, for York students to have an international experience - at York as well as by going away - and to increase the numbers of students taking advantage of them.
  • To establish York University as the national leader in internationalization.
  • To raise the international profile of York University.
