The computer security program, offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, provides an educational foundation for students to better understand threats to computer systems and the techniques for mitigating those threats. Ensuring the privacy of personal data, preventing unauthorized access to computer systems, ensuring back-up contingency plans in the event of data loss, and protecting systems from malicious activity such as viruses and worms are just a few of the aspects covered in the program.

Besides the foundational computer science and mathematics courses, the computer security program provides in-depth education in computer networks, cryptography, network and computer security, assessment and forensics, operating systems, database, and software engineering techniques along with a solid understanding of applied ethics, management and operational practices, and exposure to relevant legal concepts are important elements of the curriculum.
