History The best preparation for teaching history is a BA degree or equivalent Honours degree in history. Courses are to be chosen in consultation with a Faculty of Education adviser and/or the subject course director. Candidates are encouraged to include courses reflecting the diverse nature of history and society. It is highly recommended to include courses involving themes such as race, gender, ethnicity and class, and also courses reflecting the histories of non-Western nations. Junior/intermediate or Second Teaching Subject Candidates must complete 24 credits as follows: Six credits must be in Canadian history but an additional six credits is strongly recommended, such as: AP/HIST 2500 6.00 Six credits must be from the following areas of history: developing world, European, ancient world and American history, such as: AP/HIST 2300 6.00 Six credits of the 24 must at the 3000 or 4000 level. First Teaching Subject Candidates must complete 36 credits as follows: Six credits must be in Canadian history but an additional six credits is strongly recommended, such as: AP/HIST 2500 6.00 Six credits must be from the following areas of history: developing world, European, ancient world and American history, such as: AP/HIST 2300 6.00 12 credits of the 36 must at the 3000 or 4000 level.
