Public Policy and Management - Atkinson


Note: With the establishment of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies on July 1, 2009, degrees and programs in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies will be moved to the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies as of the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 Session. Grandparenting provisions have been developed for students continuing in degrees and programs currently offered in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies. Program Requirements

Students prior to entering the Public Policy and Management program must have completed one 12U mathematics course or equivalent.

BA: 90 credits

General education requirements: 24 credits including:

  • six credits 1000-level humanities;
  • six credits 1000-level mathematics or modes of reasoning;
  • six credits 1000-level natural science;
  • six credits 1000-level social science.

Required credits outside the major: AK/ECON 1000 3.00 and AK/ECON 1010 3.00.

Major: 42 credits including:

At least 12 credits in the major must be at the 3000 level or above.

*Note: Students who plan to take the Specialized Honours program option with a focus on Financial Management are advised to take AK/ADMS 2500 3.00.

Upper-level courses: The 90 credits above must include at least 18 credits at the 3000 level or above including at least 12 credits in the major at the 3000 level or above.

Residency requirement: At least 30 credits not used toward another academic program are to be taken at York University. Half the major credits must be taken through Atkinson.

Graduation: Students must pass at least 90 credits that meet Atkinson degree and program requirements. The cumulative grade point average for all courses must be at least 4.00.

BA Specialized Honours: 120 credits

General education requirements: 24 credits including:

  • six credits 1000-level humanities;
  • six credits 1000-level mathematics or modes of reasoning;
  • six credits 1000-level natural science;
  • six credits 1000-level social science.

Required credits outside the major: AK/ECON 1000 3.00 and AK/ECON 1010 3.00.

Major: 75 credits including:

(iv) Students must choose nine additional credits with a focus in either financial management (group A) or human resource management (group B). Courses must be selected from either group A or group B as listed.

Upper-level courses: Of the 120 credits a minimum of 36 credits must be taken at the 3000 level or above including at least 18 credits at the 4000 level.

Residency requirement: At least 30 credits not used toward another academic program are to be taken at York University. Half the major; double major; or, major/minor credits must be taken through Atkinson.

Graduation: Students must pass at least 120 credits that meet Atkinson degree and program requirements. The cumulative grade point average for all courses must be at least 5.00.

Group A (for students focusing on Financial Management):

At least 12 credits in the major must be at the 4000 level.

Course Substitutes
