Science and Society
Note: For purposes of meeting program requirements, all Foundations
courses will count as 6 credits towards the major.
Course offerings may vary from year to year and students are advised
to consult the supplemental calendar of the Divisions of Social
Science, Humanities, or the program coordinator.
Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA
Program
The Science and Society program is an Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary
BA program. The program is jointly housed in the Divisions of Humanities
and Social Science. Science and Society majors must comajor in another
department/discipline in the Faculty of Arts, Environmental Studies,
or with a major program in Physics and Astronomy or Earth and Atmospheric
Science in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science. Students must
take at least 36 credits in the Science and Society program and
at least 36 credits in the comajor according to the requirements
and regulations specified by each department/discipline for an Honours
Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program. Courses taken to meet
Science and Society requirements cannot also be used to meet the
requirements of the departmental/divisional major. Students in these
Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits
at the 4000 level, including at least 6 credits in Science and Society
and 6 credits in the departmental/divisional major. For further

Students must take 36 credits in the Science and Society program,
including:
- one of AS/HUMA 1910 9.0 or AS/HUMA 2915 9.0;
- AS/SOSC 2040 9.0;
- AS/HUMA 4225 6.0;
- and 18 additional credits from the list of program courses.
Note 1: Students interested in the Science and Society program
are strongly encouraged to successfully complete AS/HUMA 1910 9.0
in their first year of study.
Note 2: Students may take courses through Atkinson and Glendon
(subject to degree credit exclusion and in-Faculty regulations)
by permission of the Science and Society program. Students interested
in this program should arrange their program of study in consultation
with the program coordinator.
