Mathematics Honours Program Core

  • AS/MATH 1000 3.0, AS/MATH 1010 3.0;

  • one of AS/MATH 1090 3.0, AS/MATH 1190 3.0, AS/MATH 2090 3.0 or AS/MATH 2320 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 1021 3.0, AS/MATH 2022 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 2310 3.0; AS/MATH 3010 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 3020 6.0 or both AS/MATH 3131 3.0 and AS/MATH 3132 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 3210 3.0;

  • 6 credits chosen from: AS/MATH 4000 6.0 (4000 3.0) (projects in pure mathematics), AS/MATH 4010 6.0, AS/MATH 4020 6.0, AS/MATH 4030 3.0, AS/MATH 4050 6.0, AS/MATH 4080 6.0, AS/MATH 4110 3.0, AS/MATH 4120 3.0, AS/MATH 4130 3.0, AS/MATH 4140 3.0, AS/MATH 4150 3.0, AS/MATH 4160 3.0, AS/MATH 4170 6.0, AS/MATH 4210 3.0, AS/MATH 4230 3.0, AS/MATH 4250 6.0, AS/MATH 4280 3.0, AS/MATH 4290 3.0, AS/MATH 4430 3.0, AS/MATH 4630 3.0 or AS/MATH 4730 3.0.

Note: If AS/MATH 1010 3.0 is replaced by another calculus course, then AS/MATH 3110 3.0 must be taken as part of the Honours Program Core. If one or more of AS/MATH 1021 3.0 or AS/MATH 2022 3.0 is replaced by other linear algebra courses and if the grades obtained were less than A, then two of AS/MATH 1090 3.0, AS/MATH 1190 3.0, AS/MATH 2090 3.0 or AS/MATH 2320 3.0 must be taken as part of the Honours Program Core.

Specialized Honours BA Program

The Mathematics Honours Program Core and at least 30 additional Major (i.e. without second digit 5) AS/MATH credits including at least 6 credits at the 4000 level. One of AS/MATH 4010 6.0 or AS/MATH 4020 6.0 must be included in this program.

Honours BA Program

The Mathematics Honours Program Core and at least 6 additional major (i.e. without second digit 5) AS/MATH credits at the 4000 level.

Honours Double Major BA Program

The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly with any other Honours Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies or Fine Arts.

Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA Programs

The Honours BA program described above may be linked with any Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take at least 42 credits in Mathematics and at least 36 credits in the Interdisciplinary program. Courses taken to meet Mathematics requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the Interdisciplinary program. Students in these Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits in Mathematics and 6 credits in the Interdisciplinary program. For further details of requirements, see the listings for specific Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA programs.

Honours Major/Minor BA Program

The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly with any Honours Minor Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a minor in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science.

Honours Minor BA Program

The Honours Minor must be pursued jointly with an Honours BA program in the Faculty of Arts.

The Honours Minor in Mathematics consists of:

  • first-year calculus (6 credits at the 1000 level without second digit 5);

  • one of AS/MATH 1090 3.0, AS/MATH 1190 3.0, AS/MATH 2090 3.0 or AS/MATH 2320 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 1021 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 2022 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 2310 3.0;

  • at least 12 additional major (i.e. without second digit 5) AS/MATH credits at the 3000 level or higher.

Note: Faculty of Arts legislation requires that, in order to obtain an Honours BA (120 credits), students must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits at the 4000 level in each Honours Major or Specialized Honours Major.

BA Program

  • first-year calculus (6 credits at the 1000 level without second digit 5);

  • one of AS/MATH 1090 3.0, AS/MATH 1190 3.0, AS/MATH 2090 3.0 or AS/MATH 2320 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 1021 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 2022 3.0;

  • AS/MATH 2310 3.0;

  • at least 12 additional major (i.e. without second digit 5) AS/MATH credits at the 3000 level or higher.

Note: Students who have taken AS/MATH 1530 3.0 and AS/MATH 1540 3.0 or AS/MATH 1550 6.0 may not take AS/MATH 1300 3.0, but will be considered to have credit for AS/MATH 1300 3.0 and may take AS/MATH 1310 3.0.

Please refer to the current departmental/divisional supplemental calendar for updated program/major requirements.
