Labour Studies

Note: For purposes of meeting program requirements, all Foundations courses will count as 6 credits towards the major.

Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA Program

The Labour Studies program is an Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program. The program is housed in the Division of Social Science. Labour Studies majors must comajor in another department/discipline in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take at least 36 credits in the Labour Studies program and at least 36 credits in the comajor according to the requirements and regulations specified by each department/discipline for an Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program. Courses taken to meet Labour Studies requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the departmental/divisional major. Students in these Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 6 credits in Labour Studies and 6 credits in the departmental/divisional major. For further details of requirements, see the listings for specific Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA programs.

For Labour Studies, students must complete 36 credits as follows: 12 credits in core courses - AS/SOSC 2210 9.0 and AS/SOSC 4210 6.0; at least 12 credits chosen from a range of optional Labour Studies courses; and a maximum of 12 additional credits chosen in consultation with the program coordinator from the list of related courses. Students in their final year may qualify for a work placement (AS/SOSC 4240 6.0) in the field.

Normally students will not count more than 6 credits in their linked major field towards their Labour Studies major. Where appropriate, a maximum of 6 credits in related courses from Atkinson, Glendon or the Schulich School of Business may be taken towards the Labour Studies major.

Students majoring in Labour Studies must meet with the program coordinator annually to arrange their program of study. Students who do not take advantage of advising appointments cannot be assured placement in Labour Studies courses.

Please refer to the current departmental/divisional supplemental calendar for updated program/major requirements.
