  Calendar 2001-2002<Faculty of Arts<Programs 
  of Study Italian Program   As of Fall/Winter 2000-2001 a new numbering sequence is in place 
              for Italian language courses. Changes are as follows:  
              AS/IT 1000 6.0 formerly AS/IT 1000 6.0 and AS/IT 1010 6.0. AS/IT 2000 6.0 formerly AS/IT 1040 6.0, AS/IT 1050 6.0, AS/IT 
                1060 6.0. AS/IT 3000 6.0 formerly AS/IT 2040 6.0, AS/IT 2060 6.0. AS/IT 4000 6.0 formerly AS/IT 3040 6.0. AS/IT 4120 6.0 formerly AS/IT 3120 6.0.   Literature courses counting toward a degree in Italian are divided 
              into two groups:   Group A: Pre-19th Century Literature   AS/IT 3340 3.0, AS/IT 3350 6.0, AS/IT 3360 6.0, AS/IT 3370 6.0, 
              AS/IT 3760 3.0, AS/IT 4210 3.0, AS/IT 4330 6.0, AS/IT 4350 3.0, 
              AS/IT 4550 3.0.   Group B: Literature of the 19th and 20th Centuries   AS/IT 3210 3.0, AS/IT 3750 6.0, AS/IT 3550 6.0, AS/IT 3770 3.0, 
              AS/IT 3790 6.0, AS/IT 4200 6.0, AS/IT 4620 6.0 (formerly AS/IT 4620 
              3.0), AS/IT 4650 6.0.   Courses in Italian linguistics are: AS/IT 3130 3.0, AS/IT 3150 
              3.0, AS/IT 4140 3.0, AS/IT 4150 3.0, AS/IT 4180 3.0, AS/IT 4190 
              3.0.   With the exception of real beginners, prospective students of 
              Italian should complete a language placement questionnaire prior 
              to enrolment in any Italian language course.   Specialized Honours BA Program   Students will take at least 54 credits in Italian, including the 
              following:   Core Language Requirement   18 core language credits as follows:  
              AS/IT 2000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 3000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 4000 6.0 or AS/IT 4120 6.0 or equivalent.   Core Literature Requirement   6 core literature credits as follows:   Other Courses   30 credits including 12 credits at the 4000 level as follows: 
             
              6 credits in Italian linguistics; 18 credits in literature (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0) and at 
                least 6 credits from each of literature Group A and B; any 6 additional credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.   Honours BA Program   Students will take at least 42 credits in Italian, including the 
              following:   Core Language Requirement   18 core language credits as follows:  
              AS/IT 2000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 3000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 4000 6.0 or AS/IT 4120 6.0 or equivalent.   Core Literature Requirement   6 core literature credits as follows:   Other Courses   18 credits including 12 credits at the 4000 level as follows: 
             
              3 credits in Italian linguistics; 12 credits in literature (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0), and at 
                least 6 credits from each of literature Group A and B; any 3 additional credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.   Honours Double Major BA Program   The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly 
              with any other Honours Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties 
              of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a major in Earth 
              and Atmospheric Science or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty 
              of Pure and Applied Science.   Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA 
              Programs   Italian may be linked with any Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary 
              BA program in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take at least 36 
              credits in Italian and at least 36 credits in the Interdisciplinary 
              program. Courses taken to meet Italian requirements cannot also 
              be used to meet the requirements of the Interdisciplinary program. 
              Students in these Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of 
              at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits 
              in Italian and 6 credits the Interdisciplinary program. For further 
              details of requirements, see the listings for specific Honours Double 
              Major Interdisciplinary BA programs.   Students will take at least 36 credits in Italian, including the 
              following:   Core Language Requirement   18 core language credits as follows:  
              AS/IT 2000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 3000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 4000 6.0 or AS/IT 4120 6.0 or equivalent.   Core Literature Requirement   6 core literature credits as follows:   Other Courses   12 credits including 6 credits at the 4000 level as follows:  
              3 credits in Italian linguistics; 6 credits in literature (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0); any 3 additional credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.   Honours Major/Minor BA Program   The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly 
              with any Honours Minor Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties 
              of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a minor in Biology, 
              Chemistry or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied 
              Science.   Honours Minor BA Program   The Honours Minor must be pursued jointly with an Honours BA program 
              in the Faculty of Arts.   Students will take at least 30 credits in Italian, including the 
              following:   Core Language Requirement   12 core language credits as follows:  
              AS/IT 2000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 3000 6.0 or equivalent.   Core Literature Requirement   6 core literature credits as follows:   Other Courses   12 credits as follows:  
              6 credits in Italian literature (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0); 
              any 6 additional credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.   Students who choose to take a total of 12 credits in literature 
              (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0), must choose 6 credits from each of 
              literature Group A and B.   Note: Faculty of Arts legislation requires that, in order to obtain 
              an Honours BA (120 credits), students must take a total of at least 
              18 credits at the 4000 level including at least 12 credits at the 
              4000 level in each Honours Major or Specialized Honours Major.   BA Program   Students will take at least 30 credits in Italian, including the 
              following:   Core Language Requirement   12 core language credits as follows:  
              AS/IT 2000 6.0 or equivalent; AS/IT 3000 6.0 or equivalent.   Core Literature Requirement   6 core literature credits as follows:   Other Courses   12 credits as follows:  
              6 credits in Italian literature (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0); 
              any 6 additional credits at the 3000 or 4000 level.   Students who choose to take a total of 12 credits in literature 
              (other than AS/IT 2200 6.0), must choose 6 credits from each of
