History

Specialized Honours BA Program

Students will take at least 54 credits in History, selected in consultation with the department. These must include a 6 credit 1000-level History course taken in the Faculty of Arts, and within a student's first 12 History credits. They must also include a total of 36 credits from the 3000 and 4000 levels, with at least 18 credits taken from 4000-level courses, 12 credits of which must be taken from 4000-level seminars. A student may take 6 credits at the 4000 level after the completion of at least 48 credits; 12 4000-level credits can be taken after the completion of 84 credits. One of a student's 4000-level courses must deal with an area outside of North America (i.e. Canada and the US), and at least one must be taken in the Faculty of Arts History Department. With the permission of the department, a student may take AS/HIST 4000 6.0 in place of one of their final two seminars.

Honours BA Program

Students will take at least 42 credits in History, selected in consultation with the department. These must include a 6 credit 1000-level History course taken in the Faculty of Arts, and within a student's first 12 History credits. They must also include a total of 24 credits from the 3000 and 4000 levels, with at least 12 credits taken from 4000-level courses, 6 credits of which must be taken from 4000-level seminars. A student may take 6 credits at the 4000 level after the completion of at least 48 credits and 6 more after the completion of 84 credits. At least one of these 4000-level courses must be taken in the Faculty of Arts History Department; with the permission of the department, a student may take AS/HIST 4000 6.0 or AS/HIST 4991 6.0 in place of a 4000-level seminar. One of the history courses above the 1000 level must deal with an area outside of North America (i.e. Canada and the US).

Honours Double Major BA Program

The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly with any other Honours Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a major in Earth and Atmospheric Science or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science.

Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA Programs

History may be linked with any Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take at least 36 credits in History and at least 36 credits in the Interdisciplinary program. Courses taken to meet History requirements cannot also be used to meet the requirements of the Interdisciplinary program. Students in these Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits in History and 6 credits in the Interdisciplinary program. Honours Major/Minor BA Program

The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly with any Honours Minor Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a minor in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science.

Honours Minor BA Program

The Honours Minor must be pursued jointly with an Honours BA program in the Faculty of Arts.

The Honours Minor in History comprises at least 30 History credits, including a 6 credit 1000-level History course taken in the Faculty of Arts, and within a student's first 12 History credits, not more than 12 credits at the 2000 level, and 6 credits at 4000 level after the completion of at least 48 credits. At least 6 credits from a course above the 1000 level must be taken from outside the North American area (i.e. Canada and the US).

Note: Faculty of Arts legislation requires that, in order to obtain an Honours BA (120 credits), students must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits at the 4000 level in each Honours Major or Specialized Honours Major.

BA Program

Students will take at least 30 credits in History, selected in consultation with the department, including a 6 credit 1000-level History course taken in the Faculty of Arts, and within their first 12 History credits, and not more than 12 credits at the 2000 level. At least 6 credits from a course above the 1000 level must be taken from outside the North American area (i.e. Canada and the US). A student may, with the permission of the department, take 6 credits in a 4000-level course.
