Geography/Urban Studies

This is an Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program. Students must take at least 36 credits in Geography courses and at least 36 credits in Urban Studies courses. Courses taken to meet Geography requirements cannot also be used to meet Urban Studies requirements. The courses taken must include: AS/GEOG 1400 6.0, AS/GEOG 1410 6.0, AS/GEOG 2420 3.0 and AS/GEOG 3420 3.0, AS/SOSC 2710 6.0, AS/GEOG 3120 6.0, AS/SOSC 3700 6.0, AS/SOSC 4700 6.0, at least 6 credits from AS/GEOG 4040 6.0, AS/GEOG 4110 3.0, AS/GEOG 4170 3.0, AS/GEOG 4220 3.0, AS/GEOG 4240 3.0, AS/GEOG 4260 3.0 and AS/GEOG 4380 3.0 or AS/GEOG 4000 6.0 or AS/SOSC 4710 6.0.

Students choosing AS/GEOG 4000 6.0 may take either AS/SOSC 4700 6.0 or AS/SOSC 4710 6.0 as a required Urban Studies course. Those choosing AS/SOSC 4700 6.0 must take 6 credits in Urban Geography at the 4000 level. At least 18 credits must be taken at the 4000 level, including at least 6 credits in Geography and 6 credits in Urban Studies.

Note: Any 6 credits from AS/GEOG 3120 6.0, AS/GEOG 4040 6.0, AS/GEOG 4110 3.0, AS/GEOG 4170 3.0, AS/GEOG 4220 3.0 or AS/GEOG 4240 3.0 may be called "Urban Studies" and replaced by other courses offered by the Department of Geography. Refer to the Department of Geography and the Urban Studies program supplemental calendars for further details.

Honours Major/Minor BA Program

The Honours BA program described above may be pursued jointly with any Honours Minor Bachelor's degree program in the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts, or with a minor in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science.

Honours Minor BA Program

The Honours Minor must be pursued jointly with an Honours BA program in the Faculty of Arts.

The Honours Minor in Geography comprises at least 30 credits in Geography, including AS/GEOG 1400 6.0, AS/GEOG 1410 6.0 and 6 credits at the 4000 level.

Note: Faculty of Arts legislation requires that, in order to obtain an Honours BA (120 credits), students must take a total of at least 18 credits at the 4000 level, including at least 12 credits at the 4000 level in each Honours Major or Specialized Honours Major.

BA Program

Students will take at least 30 credits in Geography, chosen with the permission of the department, including two of AS/GEOG 1000 6.0, AS/GEOG 1400 6.0 or AS/GEOG 1410 6.0. 12 of the remaining 18 credits must be above the 2000 level.
