Communication Studies
Note: For purposes of meeting program requirements, all Foundations
courses will count as 6 credits towards the major.

four categories as described below. Not all courses are offered
every year and additional courses may be added.

AK/SOSC 2410 6.0 for major credit (Degree credit exclusion: AS/SOSC

Specialized Honours BA Program
The Communication Studies program offers a limited enrolment Specialized
Honours BA program. Admission to the program requires that students
achieve a B (6.0) average in AS/SOSC 2310 9.0 and at least 6 other
Communication Studies credits, and a cumulative grade point average
of at least C+ (5.0). Continuation in, and graduation from, the
program requires that students maintain a cumulative grade point
average of C+ (5.0) as well as at least a B (6.0) average on all
54 Communication Studies credits.
Because of limited space, admission is not guaranteed for all
students who meet the minimum requirements. For more information
regarding application information, please contact the Communication
Studies program office.
Students majoring in the program must complete 54 credits in Communication
Studies, as outlined below:

AS/SOSC 2310 9.0;

AS/SOSC 3320 6.0;

AS/SOSC 3990D 6.0;

6 additional credits at the 3000 level from Category B;
-
12 credits at the 4000 level from Category C (excluding AS/SOSC
4340 6.0);

18 additional approved Communication Studies credits from Category
B, C or D.
Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary BA
Program
The Communication Studies program is an Honours Double Major Interdisciplinary
BA program. Communication Studies majors must comajor in another
department/discipline in the Faculty of Arts. Students must take
at least 36 credits in the Communication Studies program and at
least 36 credits in the comajor according to the requirements and
regulations specified by each department/discipline for an Honours
Double Major Interdisciplinary BA program. Courses taken to meet
Communication Studies requirements cannot also be used to meet the
requirements of the departmental/divisional major. Students in these
Interdisciplinary programs must take a total of at least 18 credits
at the 4000 level, including at least 6 credits in Communication
Studies and 6 credits in the departmental/divisional major. For
further details of requirements, see the listings for specific Honours
Double Major Interdisciplinary BA programs.
The 36 credits in Communication Studies must include the following:
- AS/SOSC 2310 9.0;
- 6 credits at the 3000 level from Category B;
- 6 credits in a 4000 level from Category C;
- 18 additional approved Communication Studies credits from Category
D.
Students must arrange their program of study in consultation with
an adviser in the program and with the department/division.
